Introduction
This e-team is a collaboration between QuantumQuipu and the Morphodynamics Neuroscience and Behavior eLab.
The collaboration between neuroscience and quantum computing began with the creation of a study group initiated by Ricardo Quispe, founder of Quantum Quipu. As part of this initiative, the first Quantum Neurocomputing Seminar was held on Saturday, September 23, 2023, featuring Ricardo Quispe, Enver Oruro, William Guadalupe, and Josué Huerta Ruiz, with Adriana Chira serving as moderator. The seminar focused on the analysis and discussion of the paper by Gonzalez-Raya et al. (2019), Quantized Single-Ion-Channel Hodgkin-Huxley Model for Quantum Neurons (Phys. Rev. Applied, 12, 014037), which explores the integration of quantum computing principles with models of neuronal activity.
In 2026, a second research group emerged through the DERIVATE UNMSM program. The group explored a recently proposed integrate-and-fire model for artificial intelligence applications in quantum computing, using spiking neural networks (SNNs).
As the founder of QuantumQuipu, Latin America’s largest online quantum computing community, Ricardo Angelo Quispe Mendizábal has promoted quantum technology outreach and created opportunities for students and early-career researchers. He led the organization of the First Peruvian School of Quantum Computing in 2022, the School of Quantum Computing in 2023 , and the Second Peruvian School of Quantum Computing in 2025, contributing to education and knowledge dissemination in the field. In recognition of his contributions and achievements, he was selected as one of the Quantum 100 of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology 2025 .
Qiskit Fall Fest en Español is a free, open-access educational initiative organized by Ricardo Angelo Quispe Mendizábal to promote quantum computing education in Latin America. Through lectures and hands-on sessions, the program provides accessible learning opportunities for students, researchers, and anyone interested in exploring quantum technologies.
